What does it take to be a truly great leader?

Outstanding leaders embody a very specific set of qualities that actually inspire people toward a particular goal or action. Successful leadership requires vision, courage and conviction. It requires compassion, a willingness to look inward and the ability to motivate. It requires self-discipline, huge energy and, above all, personal integrity.

And yet, it is often the quality of authenticity that makes the leader truly effective. It is the honesty, the personality revealed, the values shared - the qualities that make leaders unique - that allow people to trust them and therefore trust their leadership.

This workshop is specifically designed to help leaders and emerging leaders carefully define their visions of what successful leadership means for them. We will draw on current and past leadership experience as a basis of exploration. Participants will discuss the issues facing leaders in various stages of development and access the group for relevant insight and support. Through group coaching, as well as individual and team exercises, each leader will leave this workshop with a clearly developed leadership vision and a plan to attain that vision.

When any two or more people work together, conflict is inevitable. In fact, conflict arising from business challenges is often the spark that pushes breakthrough thinking and innovative problem solving to the surface. Business leaders, in particular, find themselves not only engaged in everyday conflict but also called upon to mediate disputes among staff, clients and business partners. Indeed, leaders are frequently looked upon as models for effectively managing conflict in the workplace.

This workshop identifies and explores the challenges leaders face regarding conflict "on-the-job." This two-day intensive teaches conflict resolution skill building and theory based on the highly successful legal mediation practices used to resolve disputes in our Federal and State court systems. With an 85-90% success rate, legal mediation technique is an extremely powerful and productive skill set for any leader dealing with conflict.

Led by Karen Beckman, a seasoned leadership and executive coach and corporate front line veteran, and Elaine Rosenblum, an attorney and legally trained mediator who has conducted 60 + court-referred mediations, this workshop uniquely ties the applications of mediation technique to the conflicted situations corporate executives often face.

Even top performers can struggle on the road to leadership. Displaying mastery and exuding confidence in junior and middle management positions, the concept of what is expected from emerging leaders as they step into more senior leadership roles can be vague and sometimes altogether elusive. Compounding this is the misguided belief that leaders should intuitively know how to conquer evolving challenges and responsibilities without any support. This series of half-day workshops are designed to bring consciousness, structure and support to the process of emerging leadership.

Participants will actively engage in a series of group dialogues about what leadership means to them, who their role models are and why, the differences between leadership and management, and the roles that vision, integrity and personal values play in successful leadership. Importantly, they are asked to consider how the way they carry and present themselves (in meetings, presentations and even around the halls) impacts the effectiveness of their leadership. Discussion is ultimately focused on what people need from leaders and what participants can specifically do to better meet those needs.

By including participants from different disciplines/areas in the company, a built-in support network is automatically developed that emerging leaders can draw from on an ongoing basis.

These workshops are led by Karen Beckman, leadership coach and Founder of Empowerment Toolbox and are tailored to meet the needs of each particular group/company.

The key to successful presentations is often the comfort level and confidence of the speaker. Yet, facing an audience - the fear of public speaking- is actually the number one fear in America. This full day workshop enables executives at all levels to improve their presentation and public speaking skills through self-hypnosis. By learning to stay relaxed and focused, presenters step into more powerful and confident states.

First, important aspects of the physiology of stress and the stress reaction in the body are covered so that presenters understand their own reactions. Next, presenters learn the importance of preparation, and the most effective ways to prepare for presentations. Ultimately, presenters learn powerful relaxation and focusing techniques like visualization for 'rehearsing success', desensitization for removing fears, and use of a self hypnosis anchor for calmness, which can be used before and during presentations. These valuable relaxation tools are learned and then internalized so they may be used to improve future speeches, meetings, presentations, performances.

There has never been a more urgent need for people to have tools to ease their anxiety about flying. Fear of flying has risen dramatically since the tragedies of September 11th. For some, the fear can be debilitating; with people even changing their work to avoid flying. Even seasoned travelers have new levels of anxiety as they fly.

Learning techniques to distract and calm the mind and the body are key to overcoming fear of flying.

This half-day workshop begins with lucid, left-brained information, including a basic understanding of flight, as well as the physiology of stress and fear in particular. Next, cutting edge technology is taught about how to separate from, watch and distract our minds from reflexive thoughts and the accompanying fear that results from them in order to affect new behavior. Participants learn the relaxation response and desensitization, simple and effective self-hypnosis, take-with-you tools that can be called upon for any actual flight experience.

This workshop is specifically designed to be inclusive, so that participants with all different levels of fear can feel safe and have their needs met.

It is common knowledge that smoking has serious health consequences; the unfortunate truth is that well before causing life-threatening disease, smoking contributes to respiratory infections, shortness of breath, low energy, and suppressed immune response. In short, it hurts the smoker, and can translate to lower productivity in the workplace.

Sadly, many smokers feel powerless to quit. Often describing the habit as a way to deal with stress, smokers are challenged by and fearful of giving up this measure of 'comfort'. Over time, they experience less and less enjoyment and more and more physical problems: the cough, the smell, the burns, the social consequences. The smoker is often stressed about finding a way to quit.

Hypnosis is a well-known way to quit smoking. Stop Smoking Today can provide the means for smokers who are ready and want to quit, to be free of the habit forever.

In this 3-hour workshop, guided self-hypnosis is used to close the door on the old habit and open the pathway to feeling healthier and better. First, there is some important sharing of the issues and reasons the participants have for liking smoking/hating smoking. These are later utilized as each person comes to his own inner commitment to quit, when in a relaxed hypnotic state. Then, simple techniques for relaxation of the body and mind are taught to replace some of the old behaviors, like reaching for cigarettes in times of stress.

The level of success for this program is very high; many people never reach for a cigarette again. Offered in this type of group setting, there is the additional benefit of the 'support' group that is created by quitting together.
